The mission of
the Friends of the Midland Park Memorial Library is to help
our library maintain its place as a valuable community asset
and keep pace with advances in information technology. We
raise funds to supplement the regular library budget, making
it possible for patrons to enjoy a wider range of materials,
special programs and equipment. We also endeavor to raise
awareness of the library’s unique resources, which include a
comprehensive collection of literature and reference materials
in a variety of media and the services of an outstandingly
knowledgeable, dedicated, and friendly staff.
The purpose of
this organization shall be to maintain an association of
persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on
the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources
and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments and
bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the
library in developing library services and facilities for the
community, and to support the freedom to read as expressed in
the American Library Association Bill of Rights.
The following is a brief organizational history of The Friends
of the Midland Park Public Library. There has been a
friends–type organization in existence ever since the Midland
Park Memorial Library was founded in 1926.
Formally incorporated with the State of New Jersey in 1926 as
“Midland Park Library Association”. Renamed “Midland Park
Library Guild” in 1940. Adopted the current name “Friends of
the Midland Park Memorial Library” in 1978.
