Public
Warning Systems
The Borough's primary public warning is through Swiftreach
Reverse 911 phone service, with route alerting via loud
speakers from borough vehicles and Midland Park E-Notices used
as secondary means of alert. If your phone number is unlisted
and hasn’t been submitted previously, please eMail it to:
certmp@yahoo.com along with your name and address. These are
added periodically in bulk, so may take some time to be added.
Additional announcements may be found through local radio
stations and television stations. The following stations will
also be used if available: News 12 NJ, NJ Network News Channel
50, WCBS AM 880 Radio, WINS AM 1010, WINS AM 1010, WNBC AM
660, Public Access cable station 77. Please check your cable
or satellite provider’s channel guide for station locations.
Readiness Quotient - Are
you ready?
In recent years, the American people have been urged to “get ready” and
to prepare for emergencies—from natural disasters to terrorist attacks.
But no one has ever given the public a simple, comprehensive and
consistent tool to actually measure how prepared they are. No one
has ever
provided communities and the nation as a whole with a practical “gauge”
to assess their preparedness, recognize their successes, and identify
gaps where more work needs to be done.
Until Now...
The Public Readiness Index (PRI) is a first-of-its kind tool for
individuals, families and communities to determine and evaluate their
readiness. See how you stack up against the national average and learn
specific steps you can take to better prepare yourself and your family,
as well as things you can do to encourage your community, schools, and
workplace to be better prepared.

Emergency Evacuations
The Mayor, in concert with the
Emergency Management Coordinator, has the responsibility to
decide on partial or total evacuation. During such an event,
additional public warning and evacuation notifications will be
broadcast on local radio stations, News 12 New Jersey, and the
stations listed above. These may be supplemented with route
(loudspeaker ) alerting by police and volunteer emergency
responders.
Be prepared
Make sure you have a family emergency
plan should severe weather cause travel or essential services
to be interrupted. Your plan should include basic safety
measures, emergency phone numbers and plans to stay with
friends or relatives should an evacuation be ordered. It is a
good idea to set up a contact point with a relative out of the
area with whom you can leave messages for other family members
who may not be able to reach you via telephone.
Have your
family learn basic safety measures, such as CPR, and first
aid; how and when to turn off utilities in your home and teach
children to call 911 during emergencies. Prepare an emergency
supply kit including a 3-day supply of water and
non-perishable foods, a battery-powered radio, flashlights
with extra batteries, a first-aid kit with prescription
medicines (rotate batteries and medications periodically to
keep them current ), special items for infants and the
elderly, as well as cash and credit cards. Preparing and
practicing your family plan is your best protection should an
emergency occur. For additional information visit the FEMA
website or the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management at
www.bcoem.org.
NOAA Weather Radio
Stay tuned to NOAA weather
radio for the latest severe weather information. The local
stations may be found at 162.500 (KZZ31 ) and 162.550 (KWO35).
NOAA weather radio is a public service provided by both the
National Weather Service and the Emergency Alert System,
enabling your weather radio to be a single source for
comprehensive weather and emergency information. NOAA weather
radios usually cost less than $100 and are available at most
electronics dealers. Additional information is available at
NOAA website
www.weather.gov/nwr/CntyCov/nwrNJ.htm.

CERT
Midland
Park has a trained Community Emergency Response Team ( CERT )
to augment the police, fire and EMS first responders. These
trained and dedicated volunteers are ready to do such tasks as
shelter operations, road closures, damage assessment and to
work in the Emergency Operations Center ( EOC ). They are
readily identifiable by their green vests or orange
windbreakers and all have identification displayed.
